AB680 - Nonresident Tuition: Exemption

At Glendale Community College, we have a large population of undocumented students who face numerous barriers, including the high out-of-state tuition that leads them to pay for numerous classes that they do not need, and not having the advantage to explore their career path. Students who are ready to transfer after two years unfortunately must still be enrolled for an additional year to obtain the ability to be exempted from paying the out-of-state tuition. Essentially AB 680 is a continuation of the bill AB 540, according to which undocumented students must be enrolled in three years of high school and three years of community college to be exempted from paying out-of-state tuition. This bill will allow community college students to be exempt from the nonresident tuition fees once they complete 60 transferable units. This bill will further empower undocumented students on their career path. By signing this petition and supporting AB 680, you can contribute to assisting a significant number of undocumented students in need and advocating for their interests. Your actions will create a positive impact and set a precedent for future generations of Undocumented California Community College students, leaving a lasting footprint for years to come.
