ASGCC Acknowledges Black History Month

The Associated Students of Glendale Community College (ASGCC) acknowledges Black History Month as an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the histories, achievements, and lasting impact of Black and African American communities in the United States. It is also a moment to reflect on the realities of struggle, resistance, and perseverance that have shaped and continue to shape the Black experience. This journey is reflected in the ways Black communities celebrate cultural transitions and create space for growth and expansion.

Black History Month serves as an opportunity to reflect on the impact that the Black community has had in shaping our nation’s social, cultural, and political customs, despite enduring centuries of systemic oppression and injustice. Throughout history, the community has led transformative moments, changing the course of the world we live in today. Through activism, education, and community leadership, Black influence shines through, helping strengthen society. The community serves as an inspiration in all areas, especially at Glendale Community College.

Organizations and clubs, such as the Black Scholars and the Black Student Union, pave the way for success among individuals around campus. The support provided within these groups can help create a strong sense of belonging, allowing students to feel seen, heard, and valued. We honor the struggles, achievements, and ongoing efforts toward equality and justice, while recognizing that Black history is not limited to the past; it is living, evolving, and deeply connected to our present and future.

ASGCC invites our campus community to use this month as an opportunity to learn, engage, and reflect on Black experiences, uplift Black voices, and commit to advocating for racial equality. We encourage students, faculty, and staff to participate in campus events, support Black-led organizations, and engage in meaningful conversations to support the community. Black History Month is not only about reflection, but also about taking action year-round.
